Why we love Italy

Vernazza, in provincia di La Spezia, è uno di quei pittoreschi borghi che compongono le Cinque Terre. Sorge arroccato alle pendici di uno sperone roccioso, ed è rivolto romanticamente verso il mare. Vernazza è stata dichiarata nel 1997 Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità dall’UNESCO, insieme alle altre quattro località che costituiscono il territorio delle Cinque Terre: Monterosso al Mare, Corniglia, Manarola e Rio Maggiore, tutte ben collegate tra di loro e che è possibile visitare nel giro di una settimana in modo molto semplice.

A Vernazza ce n’è da ammirare, dal porticciolo naturale, alle case-torre colorate, dai panorami visibili lungo i sentieri verticali, alle piazzette di paese che i cittadini chiamano “u cantu de musse”, ossia l’angolo delle chiacchiere.

Vernazza, in the province of La Spezia, is one of those picturesque villages that make up the Cinque Terre. It stands perched on the slopes of a rocky outcrop, and is romantically facing the sea. Vernazza was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, together with the other four towns that make up the Cinque Terre area: Monterosso al Mare, Corniglia, Manarola and Rio Maggiore, all well connected to each other and can be visited in a week very simple way.

In Vernazza there is much to admire, from the natural harbour, to the colorful tower-houses, from the panoramas visible along the vertical paths, to the small squares that the citizens call “u cantu de musse”, that is, the corner for chatting.
